FAST CLIMB ON MOUNT ELBRUS - 8 days tour
The groups are forming for the program Elbrus short tour in season summer 2012.
Fixed dates: from 16.06 till 23.06;
from 07.07 till 14.07; from 21.07 till 28.07;
from 04.08 till 11.08; from 18.08 till 25.08;
from 01.09 till 08.09
The cost of tour - 28 000 Rubles per person in the group from 3 persons
The given 8 days tour has minimal duration in order to have enough time for
acclimatization of prepared tourists. The simplest and the most popular program among experienced climbers is "Classical route on Elbrus" using gondola cableways "Elbrus" and arm-chaired lift "Gara-Bashi" (Elbrus scheme).
Short description of the tour
Day 1. Meeting in Min Vody airport. Transfer to Prielbrusye. Accommodation in hotel on Cheget glade.
Day 2. Acclimatization hike to the Terskol gorge, direction to "Novy Krugozor". Or along the river Terskol.
Day 3. Climbing by armchair cable-way on mountain Cheget (2750m). Hike to the Donguz-Orun Pass.
Day 4. Climbing to tourist's hotel "Gara Bashy" (3800 m) by cable-ways "Elbrus" and "Gara-Bashi".
Acclimatization hike till base "Priut 11" (4200 m). Returning to Gara-Bashi.
Day 5. Climbing for acclimatization to Pastukhov's rocks (4800 m). Returning to tourist's hotel "Gara Bashi".
Day 6. Climbing to a top of mount Elbrus. Descent to Gara-Bashi.
Day 7. Spare day for climbing. Descent to hotel on glade Cheget.
Day 8. Departure to Min Vody.

The brief description of the tour
|
1st day. Arrival from Moscow (St. Petersburg, Munich etc.) to Mineralnye Vody airport. Meeting and transfer to Prielbrusye. Accommodation in hotel on Cheget glade, dinner.
The road from Min Vody to hotel takes about 3-4 hours.

2nd day. Acclimatization hike to the Terskol gorge, direction to "Novy Krugozor" 2900m (Shelter "New Outlook").
(An expansion - 19 km, duration - 4-5 hours).
The route will let admire a majestic panorama of the Main Caucasian Gorge. It passes along
the village road branched from the Baksan highway in the Terskol vil. (2100 m).
At first the road leaves into the glade of the river Terskol. In 10 minutes begins a
rise on a starboard of the glade, on the slope of rather small
southern spur of Elbrus. This spur, folded with effusive rocks, parts the glaciers Gara-Bashi and Terskol.
We climb and leave a pine forest for the herbaceous
slopes above the Baksan glade by lengthy streamers. There are the sites of picturesque
basalt rocks above them. In 2,5 hours the road turns north, to
the transparent multi jet waterfall. It is the first spring on a whole a path.
From here we mount in a hanging glade and approach to the houses of the
"New Outlook" (2900 m). Nearby the shelter there are convenient
places for tents and a clean spring. The route from Terskol will take 3 hours.
The Baksan glade, the tops of the Mt. Ushba, Mt. Donguz-Orun, Cheget
etc. are well seen from the houses. On the opposite slope the ski lifts and
famous Cheget mountain-skiing lines are viewed.
From Terskol vil. not climbing up, we can go into the Glade of the Terskol river.
(An expansion - 15 km, duration - 4-5 hours.) .
Along the road to the "New Outlook"
we leave into the glade of the Terskol river. Soon the road leaves to the left
and then we go on moving along the path past the household constructions to
the river. We pass over the bridge to the left bank. The road leads
upwards along the river, past the "koshes"- summer houses of the shepherds.
In 1,5 hours we mount above an edge of the forest, from where the upper reaches
of the gorge are well visible. An ice threshold closes it by an altitude about 300 m. As a
huge white paw the tongue of the Terskol glacier (2900 m) hangs down from the
softened rocks - "the mutton foreheads".
40 minutes is required to get out to the platform near the beginning of the threshold.
The path ends. The tongue of the glacier is nearby. As waterfalls springs
flow out from under the tongue. They give the beginning to the Terskol
River receiving tributaries on the right and on the left.

3rd day. Climbing on mountain Cheget (2750m) by arm chair cable-way.
Then hike to the Donguz-Orun Pass. (An expansion - 14 km, duration - 3-4 hours)
The route starts on a large glade Cheget near the lower station of the cableway to Mt.Cheget,
in 2 km from the Terskol vil. Here there is a hotel "Cheget" on
520 places, a shop, a market, tourist bivouacs. Around the glade is a pine forest.
The old path to "Severny Priut" (Donguz-Orun Pass) bented the slopes of Mt. Cheget on the left on a course and
smoothly mounted to a cosh. In 1963, with the establishment of the
cableway, a shorter route has appeared. Now in 17 minutes the tourists mount an altitude
of 2750 m, to the cafe "Ai" (in Balkarian - "a moon"). From here an
ice massif of Mt. Elbrus with the glaciers Terskol, Gara-Bashi and Azau is
well seen, and also a southern ridge, on which the ribbon of the road to "The New
Outlook" is stretching.
The marked path leaves to the left on a course of a ski lift, bends a slope of Mt.Cheget and is
descending to the cosh. Old and new paths meet here.
The tourists traverse herbaceous slopes high above the river Donguz-Orun.
On the opposite part of the glade two triangles of the summits Small and Large
Kogutai, a menacing wall Donguz-Orun-Bashi (4454 m)
with huge pendulous glaciers and snow cornices, more to the right - a truncated pyramid of
Mt. Nakra-Tau are well visible.
In 45 minutes we leave to the glade of the spring Medvejy, in the upper
lands of which the glacier of the same name is seen. Not far from the spring there is a
monument to the Komsomol members, perished in the fights for the Motherland.
Below is a large green lake - Donguz-Orun-Kel.
Having crossed on rocks over the spring we go on traversing the slope of the Donguz-Orun glade.
In August - November of 1942 our troops were evacuated
over the Donguz-Orun pass. The fascists did not manage to trap that mountain pass.
The path goes up among the shafts. From one of them the view on a circus of the Western
Donguz-Orun glacier opens, at the bottom of which is
"Severny Priut". Above it there is a small lake, around the lake for the larger part of the year lies snow.
Road from cafe "Ai" up to the shelter will take 2 hours, back - 1,5.
If by any means it will not possible to take advantage of a cableway, we can go on an
aged path past a cosh. In this case expansion of a route will be increased up to 20 km, duration 6 hours.

4th day. Climbing to tourist's hotel "Gara Bashy" (3800 m) by
cableways "Elbrus" and "Gara-Bashi".
From the Azau Glade up by the aerial tramways "Elbrus-1" and "Elbrus-2" and the chair-cable lift
"Gara-Bashi". Accomodation in camp base "Gara Bashy", dinner.
Training hike till base "Priut 11" ("To the Shelter of Eleven"). From Gara-Bashi
to the "Shelter of Eleven"
the path is made over the snowfields. The marking sticks mark the path. The motion direction is the north.
Don't deviate of the path because the glacier on which the path is made has many crevasses covered by snow.
The path comes to the Shelter of Eleven. Its altitude is 4,200 meters above sea level.
From here you can see the wonderful views of the mountains of the Central and West Caucasus.
The both summits of Mount Elbrus are seen on the north. On
the east, southeast and south you can see the Greater Caucasian Range and its northern spurs. The ranges
of Svanetia (Gorgia) are seen behind the Greater
Caucasian Range, on the Southwest, behind the Hotu-Tau Range, the West Caucasus and its ranges
are seen.
After the rest the group descends to the Gara-Bashi along the ascent line.

5th day. Climbing for acclimatization to Pastukhov's rocks (4800 m).
For the acclimatization effect there have to be two nights on altitude 4000m with climbing to Pastukhov's rocks (4800 m) on first day.
Return to tourist's hotel "Gara Bashi".

6th day. Early morning climbing to a top of mount Elbrus.
The beginning of climb is planed in 2 a.m., in direction of the Pastukhov Rocks (4,800 m),
then to the saddle of Elbrus, here tourists have one hour rest and go to the
Western or Eastern summit. Return to tourist's hotel "Gara Bashi" more info..

7th day. Spare day for climbing. Descend down to hotel on glade Cheget.
In case of free day we can transfer to resort Nalchik - capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, with visiting of hot springs. Hotel accommodation 3* in park area. Evening excursion around the city. Dinner in the park.

8th day. Transfer to Min Vody airport. Departure to Moscow..
